Introduction

This Privacy Policy explains how Floating Holiday Finder ("the app") collects, uses, and protects your information. We are a first-party service with no advertising, analytics tracking, or third-party data brokers. Your privacy is our priority.

Information Collected Automatically

Our web servers automatically log basic access information when you visit the app, including:

  • Your IP address
  • Browser user-agent (browser type, version, operating system)
  • Pages you visit within the app
  • Request timestamps

These logs are retained for 30 days and then automatically deleted. We use them solely for security monitoring and infrastructure reliability — not for tracking, profiling, or any other purpose.

Location Detection

The app can auto-detect your US state in two ways, both using IP-based geolocation. We never request browser GPS permission or collect precise location data.

Automatic detection on page load

If you have not previously selected a state (either via URL parameter or saved preference), the app calls an API endpoint to look up your state from your IP address. This happens silently on page load and is used only to pre-fill the state selector. The derived state code is returned to your browser; only the state code is stored in your browser. Your IP address appears in our infrastructure logs (as described above) but is not stored separately or used for any other purpose.

Manual "Detect" button

You can manually trigger state detection at any time by clicking the "Detect" button in the state selector. Same process as above.

Cookies and Local Storage

The app uses two browser storage mechanisms:

  • Stores your Accept/Decline choice for this privacy policy
  • Expires after 1 year
  • Only sent to Floating Holiday Finder servers, never to third parties
float-query-state (browser localStorage)
  • Stores your selected state, holiday type filters, religion denomination filter, and date range (start and end dates)
  • Only stored if you Accept the cookie policy
  • Never transmitted to any server
  • Cleared when you Decline the cookie policy

Third-Party Services

The app uses Calendarific(opens in new window) to provide US holiday data. Requests to Calendarific originate from our server, not from your browser — Calendarific never sees your IP address or any information about your visit. We pass only the year and state code needed to fetch holiday data.

What We Don't Collect

  • No analytics (no Google Analytics, Mixpanel, or similar)
  • No advertising pixels or tracking codes
  • No user accounts or registration data
  • No payment information
  • No email addresses or personal identifiers
  • No browser/device fingerprinting

Data Retention

  • Infrastructure logs: Automatically deleted after 30 days. No manual retention.
  • LocalStorage data: Stays in your browser until you manually clear it or Decline the cookie policy
  • Cookie consent preference: Stored for 1 year or until manually deleted

Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page reflects the most recent version. Continued use of the app after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
